This format is mainly used for storing images with a transparent background and for creating image icons for websites. The PNG format allows for saving images with high quality, while the file size remains relatively small. Compared to the JPEG format, PNG is usually used for images that contain text or have sharp edges, because JPEG compression can cause undesirable artifacts or blurring of these details.
