Hashtag
What does it mean
A hashtag is a special symbol (#) used to denote specific topics or keywords within online posts, especially on social media. The use of hashtags simplifies the search and organization of content, allowing users to quickly find posts related to a particular topic.
More info
A hashtag is created by adding the # symbol before a word or phrase without spaces, for example: #marketing. Clicking on such a hashtag will display all posts containing that hashtag, creating a dynamic set of posts related to the topic.
To type a hashtag on the keyboard, follow these steps:
- Slovak keyboard: Alt Gr + X or left Alt + 35
- English keyboard: Shift + 3.
Why use hashtags?
Hashtags increase content visibility because they help reach a broader audience searching for specific topics. Additionally, hashtags allow brands and content creators to track and engage with current trends, enhancing interaction with the audience.
Tips for effective hashtag use:
- Use relevant hashtags: Choose those that best describe the content of the post.
- Don't overdo it: Using too many hashtags can appear unprofessional. Focus on quality, not quantity.
- Follow trends: Currently popular hashtags can help you tailor content to current discussions.
Recommended number of hashtags on social networks:
-
Instagram: The ideal number of hashtags ranges from 3 to 5, although you can add up to 30 hashtags. A smaller number of quality, relevant hashtags is more effective.
-
Facebook: Using a maximum of 1 to 2 hashtags is advisable. Facebook works better with fewer hashtags, as excessive use can reduce engagement.
-
Twitter: Due to the character limit, it is recommended to use 1 to 2 hashtags to keep the post concise and effective.
-
LinkedIn: It is recommended to use 3 to 5 hashtags. They can help the post gain greater visibility within the professional network.
For each platform, it is important to focus on the relevance of hashtags to improve the reach of posts and audience engagement.
