Google Ads Placement
What does it mean
Google Ads Placement (placement of ads in Google Ads) is a term that refers to specific places where your ads can appear within the Google ads system. These "placements" are most often websites, apps, or videos in the so-called Google Display Network (GDN), but they can also be videos on YouTube or articles on Google's partner sites.

How Ad Placement Works in Google Ads
When creating an ad campaign within Google Ads – especially when using "Display campaigns" or "Video campaigns" – you have the option to choose how your ad is displayed:
- Automatic (automated) placements – the Google system decides where your ads will appear based on the target audience, interests, demographics, and other factors. This is the most common and simplest method.
- Manual (targeted) placements – the advertiser precisely determines specific websites, YouTube channels, videos, or apps where they want their ad to appear. This is also known as "Placement targeting" – targeting by placement.
Why Google Ads Placements Are Important
Properly selected placements can significantly impact the success of your campaign. Important factors when choosing placements are:
- Relevance – the ad appears where it is more likely to reach your target audience.
- Budget efficiency – individual websites may have different costs per impression (CPM) or click (CPC), so choosing the right placement helps optimize costs.
- Increase in conversions – if the ad appears on pages where your target audience spends time, the likelihood of the desired action (e.g., purchase, registration, click-through) increases.
Practical Example
Imagine you are selling fitness exercise products. Instead of having your ad displayed randomly, you can set up placement in Google Ads so that it appears on specific fitness blogs, YouTube video channels about exercise, or in fitness apps.
Google Ads Placement is a tool that allows you to decide where your ads appear – whether Google does it automatically or you choose the exact sites and apps yourself. By selecting the right placement, you can more accurately target your audience, use your advertising budget more efficiently, and achieve better results for your campaigns.
