The beginnings of the company date back to the 1980s, when Miroslav Trnka and Peter Paško created their first antivirus program, called NOD, in response to the growing threat of computer viruses. NOD, which stands for "Hospital at the Edge of the Disk" (after the Czechoslovak series "Hospital at the Edge of the City"), became the foundation for the company's future success. In 1992, ESET was officially founded, and since then it has developed dynamically.

Throughout its history, the company expanded into the global market and opened branches in many countries, including the United States, Germany, Canada, Argentina, and Singapore.
